  • Its a rainin....

still plugging away with my project, and went off on a tangent trying to create a rainy scene. I admit the rain looks like tripe, but am having difficulties.

I created the rain by creating 1 pixel dots in photoshop and then motion blurring them along with contrast/brightness adjustments, then comped into the photograph. Ive tried using particles, but frankly it looked even worse. Curious if anyone has any suggestions.

    oh the pic:

    hi
I like your scene and idea a lot.
I think you need to add rain drops on glass (it will look wet) and it is better to see reflections on glass what is behind camera:
a street, person passing by with umbrella (in motion blur maybe).
and maybe to add some warm tint to the inside lamps so it looks warmer and outside colors look cold hues.

thanks for the reply giraffe. Actually there IS water drops on the glass, maybe its not obvious enough. The lights were tinted a nice warm yellow, but got lost in the color adjustment in photoshop, will have to look at that.

i think the scene looks wonderful. I agree, its difficult to see the rain. Only thing I can suggest is this: Do you have some type of soffit on the outside and above the storefront? If so, maybe placing a light source outside the window (like a recessed light or a couple) this might pick up the rain drops on the glass better, as well the rain drops in the foreground.

            That looks awesome

Only thing is that table on the right doesn’t look so hot with that sofa. The built-ins a great but I don't think the table should match them.

Percy....make a couple of puddles outside collecting at the base of the window. And throw some water on the windows too. Don't give up on particles too quickly....keep at it.

Its the fact that there is no depth to the rain. all the falling drops look sort of coplanar. The image is awesome....keep at it.

The inside looks great percy. Beautiful, but a bit too dark. As for the rain, i agree with Dellis, keep playing with them, ultimately i think they will be the best. Unless you stump up the cost for an Artbeats rain video
Also, i agree about the puddles outside they will realy add to the feel of the image. Also, i would at least triple the amount of water on the window as well as makig the drops slightly bigger. Good work!

                  Regards,

Looks as if it just started raining and they're more like water saturated into the brick. Do you have reflections turned on them?

                        Nice work so far.
I would put some vapour inside the glass and yes ....the reflection on puddles.

Here is a link what i found recently, maybe helps you out with your rain.

                          heres an update:

theres no color adjustment. The rain is looking better i think but have to do something about that annoying reflection in the window. Also going to try and get more light coming from the room to the patio outside.

Thanks for all the tips and comments.
