Its been a while since i posted. This is a simple kitchen which im trying to light with light from the correct lighting fixtures. unfortunately in a room like this i need a central light source. I had before a simple round type of covering which the client hated (so did i) but no matter what i do i cant seem to get away from the need of a central light source. the downlights on the sink and bar are not enough to light the kitchen.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

@Zuliban i know. i want to get everything modeled and get the lights working before i start worrying with corrections like that.

@RErender i think ill give that a try. i was thinking the same thing.

            Da Elf,

this may be a silly question, but is this a real project or are you doing some R & D? How accurate are you trying to get?

I recommend a central "dome" light on the ceiling to provide the ambient illumination to the kitchen. Your downlights should only be providing "task lighting". I wouldn't expect downlights to light the whole kitchen sufficiently in reality.

the central light theme was where i was going with the earlier images as you can see. client didnt like a big bulky looking light there but didnt know what he did want leaving it up to me.

agreed... its rare to see only little recessed down lights in an area such as this. Youll see them in little strategic areas but almost always youll have a main light there in the middle or something.

yup. as you can see on the floor plan my task lights are over the sink and over the counter. then the central light in the middle. I guess what i need to figure out isnt light placement. ive got that. its figuring out what fixture to use for that central light.

I think a recessed flourescent would look fine.

perhaps you can use some of erco's larger recessed downlights. They come in many sizes. We've got ones in the office that are 20cm in diameter, cast a white fluoroscent light and are quite bright.

I reckon you only need 2-3 of these lights and that should do the trick.
