  • Victorian house, WIP

This is obviously a work in progress that I've been modeling and would like to get some comments about.

There is still a great deal left to model and then texture. How about the basic lighting? Modeling so far? Colors? And what ever else you might think of.

The background will be a country setting when I finally get through with the modeling. The client is going to build in the hill country here in Texas.

    Thanks!

Thats pretty cool so far. Great modeling.

It looks like you are using a camera correction modifier to remove the parallax. When I look at it my eyes play tricks on me and it looks like the building is expanding out towards the top. I would maybe put some tapering back into the camera to avoid that optical illusion.

          nice modeling, Tony.

I would however suggest a bit different camera angle.....right now it's a bit too "straight on", IMO.....I think with such a cool architecture, you could make it look a bit more dramatic, by shifting the came to either right or left a bit, enough to create an interesting angle, but yet not too much where you'd loose one of the corners.....I guess just play w/ it..

ligthing would be cool if it was a bit warmer/softer....to create a nice atmosphere......(think of a scorching hot 100+degree day, in Dallas) ............... or maybe even a cool dusk lighting....

          anyway, just some thoughts

keep us posted on the textureing and ligthing...

            Thanks for the comments guys!

All are very good suggestions and I will try to put them all to use in the final render. I hartily agree with the camera settings and angle. It will definetely be changed for the final look of the image. There is a lot of detail that I will model for the gable ends of the roof as well. Little details that make a victorian house so unique.

Right now I'm trying to work out how to do the different types of shingles. I want to model them. The different roofs have some strange angles that I need to deal with. Any suggestions?

I will update the image when I get the modeling done. Then I can concentrate on the lighting and background.

I knew I could count on the members here to help produce a quality render when its finished. Thanks, and keep the suggestions coming.

Good job, as others have said, so far. Really like the design of this house. Did you design it or where did it come from?

J_Bug - Actually, my client sent me photos of three different victorian homes and asked me to design one based only from the photos. So far, he's happy with the design but wants more details on the gable ends.

When he is happy, he will then hire an architect to do the finished plans. Kind of a strange way of doing it because I am not an architect. But what the hell, it pays well and its a lot of fun to create this style of house.
