  • Karting circuit animation [finished]

    Hi,

Here's an animation( with sound) I did last week (7Mb):

    http://users.pandora.be/stor1/vray/g...ivx700slow.avi

The AA on the red logo is due to compression, I can't get it clean.

    Kind regards,

    wouter

Have you tried right clicking and save to disk, and then view it from there?

              regards,

I hope the clients liked it, frankly i understand that this is a rendering forum, but it was boring. The animation at times looks like it came to a hault, and i didnt feel i was going that fast. Personally i would have rolled the camera a little bit because our natural tendency for going into a turn is to pull into it or move your body toward the direction your turning. Also, a nice post radial blur around the edges may help on the areas where you pick up speed. I also dont know how strict the design is also, but usually turns are banked so you dont fly off the road.

I belive if you were to be showing off the track, then animating actual cars in some situatations will look best, and then cutting back and forth to a first person view.

But after watching it Im not really sure what the goal of the video was, to show off the track, to show off the animation, to show that you can render it ???

overall it's pretty cool.....but I do agree w/ some of the comments that lordshaitan mentioned....

I think the trees definatly needed to be replaced.....they looked really distracting...also addin some kinda horizon around the track would've help to visually end the environement.....

also adding some other carts as the camera goes throught the track would've been cool to add some variety to a somewhat monotone race...

most importantly I was expecting a fly by or around the main building....I really like your early still ariel shots of that facility.....maybe you can integrate that into somehow.....

                    Thanks for the comments!

Here's some more info which will make you understand better.

The animation is to be used together with some stills to show the track layout, more as a gimmick on the site than as a real need to convince some people to invest in th eproject or something. So Because of this, they didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on it.

They asked for a camera view from within the kart.

I am new to animation and video editing, and I did this animation in two days only with 1pc (including rendering, excluding some testing before, see questions in other threads).

I didn't succeed well in banking the camera. It works well with a normal camera, but the option does nothing with a targeted cam which I wanted to use because I linked the target to a second path.

The reason you think it's going slow is because the track is very fast, contrast between slow and fast parts isn't that big. Altough there seem to be sharp turns, actually for a kart they're not, because the track is extremely wide!

I don't think there will be any banked corners on this track.

I also wanted to animate the kart, but I simply didn't have the time and knowledge to do so. I would have never been succeeded in making them move and slide realistically.

What is wrong with the trees? I'm glad they are there because when you look at them, you have the horizon. I wanted more real trees, but I had many problems with them so I had to replace them with deformed spheres like these.

They didn't want an animation of the building, that's why it's not there

After all, I made 8 high res renders of the building + track and a full animation in 1.5 week. Even though it's not the most realistic or overwhelming out there, I'm still very proud of it, also because it's my first 3d viz project ever.

Thanks for being honest, that's the only way I'll learn!

                    regards,

                    wouter

(ps: when the track anim starts, it haults on purpose I thought it was cool as it's synchrone with the music in some way. It was 4am when I made that hault, and I seem to be the only one who gets it, hehe The project needed to be finished at 8 am...)

Completely understandable man, ive been there. As for my suggestions, I think if the client is happy with this and they don’t want you to change anything then it suits fine and you should be proud because you gave them what they wanted. (Especially for those >2 projects) I’ve made things for a client that I completely disagreed with or thought was the stupidest ideas, but hey, its not my job to bring down their dream, its to make it come to life.

In the future w/ an animated camera, you may want to say parent a camera to a object (id say Node but Max aint like Maya) and then animate that object to the path, that way you can free look and move the camera the way you please without having to deal w/ path constraints on the camera.

                        Hi Wouter,

since it is your first, I think you did a very good job. O.K., it is not very exciting to watch, but for a two day job including stills you did well.

                          Hehe thanks

If the track would be 1/2 shorter, it would have been better also, since now the driving part is indeed boring. At first, they didn't say anything about intro and outro parts, they just wanted a complete loop, and I can tell you, that was waaaaaaaaay more boring.
