  • falling icecubes....

while playing around a little bit with reactor2 in max7, I made a small
    animation sequence...
but I´m not really happy with the sequence:

    1. how can I get a real, clean bottom of the glas? i doesnt understand the grayish color of the glas bottom...

    2. I still get some flickering areas, although I use high vray settings

    -2, -1 / Imap 50 - 30 / multiframe incremental

(rendertimes: around 40 min per frame on a dual-xeon 2,66 tyan barebone server)

    any recommendations??

    greetings
    chris

can you show a screenshot of your material for the glass? Try increasing your refraction depth, to like 20 if your using the default settings. Also what is your GI settings? The flickering really only starts when the ice hits the glass.

Do you have GI refraction caustics turned on? Maybe that's what causing your bottom of the glas to be so dark.

Also for anims with moving objects, you should use single frame. Otherwise vray calculates GI according to previous frames, where the lighting obviously is different due to other positions of the cubes.

Try -3,0 and set the dist threshold to 0.5. I guess the rendertime comes from glossy refractions in the cubes mainly. Try to use low subdivs for this.

i cant view the AVI @ work but you may want to lift it from the other syrface a little and also give the refraction more depth ..

ok, thank you very much for the tips!
          here are the settings.
I used very low refraction settings for the icematerial, because the rendertime become increases dramaticlly...
can you give me some tips, tuning the glas material?
          thanks a lot

try checking affect shadows, and check refractive GI caustics box. If you have moving geometry in an animation, you need to render irradiance map in single frame mode. Also try using the High animation preset.
