  • Farnsworth house - WIP

I'm going to convert Mies van del Roha's "Farnsworth house" to an arch bureau. Since the model is open from all sides i dont know if i should treat it like an exterior or interior when it comes to lighting. I did the light setup first because it seemed like the hardest part of a project such as this.
The colored boxes and spheres are just temporary, the boxes will become furniture, and the balls are just for GI sake.

              Hey !
did you shrink the proportion of the Farnsworth ?? looks like !!
The original one is better ! the space seems really crowdy in yours !!

              nice material

                dunno

all they did was gave us a floor plan which is divided into modules, said that one module is one meter making the house 5x10m wide with a 4x5m porch and said "this is a masterpiece".

Though the original is intended for one eldery lady, we are supposed to put 4 architect in it.

Nice lighting and I like the soft shadows of the trees.

I wouldn't like to work in such a bright environment though when doing computer work. Is this going to be built for that purpose?

lol, nope, its an existing house.

Its a summerhouse intended for one person. I dont really see it fit for an arch bureau, because of the toilet cutting through and eating out a lot of space and because of the fact that there are no walls. The original house is organized so that the furniture actually builds a small room in the middle of the house that is surrounded by well lit and open corridors.
I guess that they gave us this house as a base because of its basic form, we are at the very beginning so i dont think that we would be fit to make our own office space. The goal of the assigment is interior organisation.
My uni is very conservative, on the lecture about the work space they never mentioned computers, but did mention rulers and other "traditional" tools. I had to plea and beg to be allowed to make 3d models instead of sketches (still have to do the plans by hand).

So, the only alternative i see to the overlit computer working spaces is to take out the computers completly. But since i dont have neither time nor intention to change the computers into something else, or to redesign the space and change my solution this will have to go.

                    Its for practice anyway.

the tree's shadow is a shadow map from total textures, i've put it into a standard material and onto a plane slightly leaned towards the house (facing more to the sun).

                          Hey Really nice material !
btw, the tower is floating ! and what are these unpluged cables ?

i would change the curtain to more sofisticated one...also direct sunshine on the screens is not nice ! ( is it not also the main purpose of this image...interior design)

did you tweek the alpha channel or something in photoshop...???

                            whoops
                            the damn yoga tower

unplugged cables may even pass, but missing backside of the tower...

                            but i have bigger problems

when working on an interior i use a hdri sky with a boosted multiplier up to 7-8 as a reflection enviroment to get strong reflections coming through the windows. This works very well until i put curtains and window glass

                            what happens then,
when i was using high exposure (dark) multipliers, the window would blow out to completly white (and i wanted some background to be seen through)

now, when i use higher light multipliers and default logarithmic exposure, glass blocks out and kills all my reflections

                            example

notice the reflection on the table on this image (no windows)

                            and here (with windows)

yeah, i pulled out those curtains by force,

rendered once without them, and than comped them in ps, they look ugly, and there is no glass behind them
