  • WIP- restaurant, need tips.

Hey, this a WIP of a restaurant, but it should be done by this weekend, any C&C will be welcomed.

OK, the thing is that im trying to change that column in the middle, we want to cover it with perforated wood, and put a fluorescent light inside, so it looks like a big lamp, any ideas on how to do that?....Ive been trying but without look, ill try to post one of those tests.

errrrrrrrrrr.......is it just me or the www.imageuploader.net site went down?

EDIT: ok heres the test i did, as you can see it doesnt looks good, inside the perforated column is just a box with a VrayMtWrapper applied, however it doesnt glows.

if you want it to glow you will have to render out a alpha chennel of that yellow box. Select the yellow parts in photoshop, and add the glow in there.

Also, If that material in the BG that looks like wood is wood, i think you need a better larger version of the image.

      I use these images

      http://www.veneerwood.com/engl/furnier/furnier.html

Then i take them into photoshop and copy, rubberstamp, and adjust to make the make 4x larger!

It feels underlit overall. Unless the windows are tinted, the background is really dark. You might want to comp the background in Photoshop instead. I still don't like how vray deals with refractions, darkening the bg as the reflections build up. Shouldn't reflections be additive?

The displacement on the floor seems a bit too strong and the reflections look either too strong or too polished. It makes the floor look wet. There's also a strange line on the bottom right table cloth. It looks like a reflection is being cut off.

IMO, the floor and those cylindrical lights look really great Materials on the chairs look too flat and the tablecloths are just a bit too sharp at the corners.

Maybe you should consider adding some sunlight coming through the windows on the left. It will create some contrast in the overall lighting.

yep, youre right, the BG is too dark, but its not final, btw, how can i comp. the BG in photoshop?....I mean, theres a glass facade, that causes reflections, i cant put the BG in post. behind that......or can I?, if there wasnt any glass, i would render with ALPHA CHANNEL, and then put the BG in photshop, but theres glass in the middle. Any tip regarding this will be appreciated.

As for the floor, i think i need to reduce the reflection, it sure looks wet.

              Thanks all for the tips.

If you enable "Affect Alpha" on your vray material, then you should get a semi-transparent alpha that maintains the proper opacity of the reflections. So you'll be able to put a background behind it in photoshop and still have your reflections visible on the glass. Just make sure you save your image out as a 32-bit Targa, or something similar.
