An old design from my 2nd year at school. Converted from max radiosity to vray and re-rendered a couple of weeks ago. Renders are straight out of max, hence the violent saturation of the interior shot, light is actually 255,255,255.
Rendertimes were ridiculous, artefacts still present. I'm no maestro at parameter riding.

Sorry for imageuploader again, is there a reasonable commercial alternative out there for people to recommend?

    Cheers,
    K.

hey...btw...do theese gaps in the wall actually bring natural light inside...in your design ? it seems to be some artificial light here !...something strange...
but if it's the case (natural light) and i'm pretty sure...then put some blue in your environment... ( and not this 255,255,255 )

For the rendering, did you use vray lights or is it just the GI bounces?

The gaps do bring natural light inside, it was designed this way, so no direct illumination should occur.. of course it does here and there, which is why I turned off the sun for the interior.
There are four vray lights, one for each side of the "box" and no "artificial" light

Zumthor inspiration, well.. At the time I worked on it I didn't think zumthor or look to his architecture, however I realised the somewhat obvious inspiration a couple of months later. It is however also similar to the scandinavian modernists work with light.

Here's a shot of the cardboard model. You will notice that the backside of the model have been removed (in order to take the picture), letting too much light in to really appreciate the subtle lighting, but you get the idea.

        cheers,
        K

I like the design and renders, but that structure must have a glass layer too. Otherwise i can't see myself sitting in that chapel in winter time Sorry if it is, i just can't see it.

              Ah!

But you will notice in the "exterior" image (which is really an interior) that the two wooden boxes are placed inside a glass box as pieces of furniture.

The loadbearing structure is glass aswell, glass columns and beams.

                Hmmm i see it now

But what is about accoustic? Inside chapel must be silence, i think.

Well, the wooden "scales" will introduce a diffusion of sound because of the layered structure. Diffusion is not damping though.

I never detailed this as that wasn't part of the project, but I did think about sandwiched elements, where a foam core would be covered with perforated plywood, much like some standard acoustic panels.
However what you don't know you shouldn't draw!

Besides those are really petty details that doesn't matter much at school, and especially since it was the 2nd year, where following an idea or a concept is rather more in focus than detailing.

                  Thanks for the interest though.

                  cheers,
