  • high rendertimes...

    Hey people!

this is an old project Im re-rendering with Vray.... I think it looks ok, but the rendertimes are too high. This render (at 700x436 pixles) took 3.5 hours. So If I would like to render a 3000+ pixel version for print that would take a day or two... = too long....

Im still a rookie when it comes to Vray, so Im sure I could optimize my settings alot.... I just dont know where to start. If you could help me to cut the rendertimes without loosing too much detail / quality etc I would really appreciate it!

I know the GI settings are low... The GI didnt take long... maybe 20 minutes. The render took more than 3 hours.

got lots of glossy reflections in there too... how high do you usually set your glossy subdivs for a stainless steel material for example? Mine is set to 20, and I think it looks too noisy if I decrease it.

my computer is a p4 2400 mhz with 1 gig ram.

    thanks in advance!

you dont need 1000 subdivs for your lightmap. Have you tried lowering it? I usually start at 300 for finals and then bump it up if necessary.

Also if you have a fairly high resolution irradiance map, then check the on your vraylight to store with irradiance map, will speed up things considerably.

Once I had same problems, now I can give answers.

      play with the possibilities
      >AA fixed rate "2" or "3"
      >adv. irrmap "check sample visibility"
      >QMC Sampler "Adaptive Amount 0.8" "Noise treshold 0.01"
      >system "face/level coef. 1.0" "Render Region 128x128"

for great resolutions: render irrmap in half resolution of final image and take this for final calculation, that saves some time.

ok that is knowledge of my excperiences.
