  • An Incredibles Inspiration

After recently watching "The Incredibles" I decided to have a go at creating a stylized sunset landscape...

screenshot: Used displacement and render subdivision.

Ive animated the ocean but haven't tried how it looks yet. Rendertime is about 25min.

Let me know what ya think. I have a version without the cityscape if anyones interested...

    hey percy!
looks really cool, the water looks awesome!
How did you make the city lights?
the only bad thing in my opinion is that the contrast is a bit too aggressiv, but that's a matter of taste. And maybe it is like this in the movie (havent watched it yet)

no plugins were used. The city lights were comped in post. Good point about the contrast. With the sun still that high on the horizon I think there would be more exposure on the island... Am rerendering...

either today or tomorrow Im going to put together a "making of" and up it to my website. Ill post here when its available. The ocean has a fairly straightforward vray material. The ocean is a plane with max displacement, wave modifier and then vray displacement on top of all that. Take a smoke material invert the colors and it makes a pretty good ocean displacement map.

              nice clouds

              but

-ocean scale is wrong regarding the city in the background, should be a lot more tiled
-reflection/specular do not match sun color
-this kind of sky/haze call for a less perturbated sea, but that's a personnal opinion.

yep..yesterday i saw The Incredibles...if i just talk about the lighting...simply just great ( shaders and staff )....that's also much more subtil than the Dreamworks production. Things like Schrek looks for too much videogame like...in term of lighting...
But Incredibles as its own style...also retro...and some shots are just great..
my favorite is when Mr Incredible enter the "password" room...so theatrical !! really congratulation...
But, if you look, Renderman is not really focusing on the details ( GI, and acurate reflexion),..it's just the overall images...24fps..which talking...faking a lot reality...
                ...
