  • Need help and a guiding hand

    http://www.gallery123251.fotopic.net/p9997288.html

    Hi all,

Just finished such a long post that by the time I posted it I was not locked in anymore and lost all that typing

Anyway what I wanted to get to was a better understand of the workflow I have seen being used by the people on this forum.

Well my aim is always to create a realistic light setup, by which I mean location of building, time of day and orienattion to north. So using the sunlight is the natural option for me. However I have noticed that most seem to favour a direct light instend, why is this?

Also I have learned that with only the sunlight I not likely to get enough light into the room. Now with photon mapping using skylights to focus the light energy through opening made sense to me, but when using lightmaps skylights does not contribute to the same way as far a I know, am I correct? So it seems that the workflow is to place Vray lights at the openings and this is where I loose the plot. Surely the direction of light and shadows cast with such a setup is not likely to correspond with the direction of light coming from the sun.

I the attached image this is clearly demonstrated. Look at the door above the glass bowl. The area to the outside of it is a small pergola and with the dining area protruding out it is shaded from the sunlight. However I placed a Vray at this opening to get more light into the room and experiment with this type of workflow. As can be seen the area is now lit up totally wrong and over bright. So how do you guys go about setting up a system like this so that the result is in line with what one would expect from the space being light up by the sun?

Okay I will keep it to this for know or other wise nobody is going to read through such a long post, but next I would like to discuss the practise of place a Vray light inside the space pointing to the ceiling.

O yes C&C are more that welcome.

    Cheers

i know VIZ got sunlight system with almost scientific precision... location, time etc.. but anyway. In my opinion the correct and most realistic way is to light the interior with 1 light.

I agree about only using one light, but how do you get your interiors to be light enough then without having spots that are totally burnt out?

have you tried to increase the dark multiplier using the exponential color mapping?

Yes, at the moment it is set to 1.8. Normally I try to keep it around there otherwise the colour start looking very artificial, at least in combination with my other settings.

For interest, what values do you normally use for the dark multiplier?
