  • Party Invitation

Hey everyone, this is an image I did for a friend of mine. Its the invitation to his Christmas Party. This is my first finished work with Vray.

This was modeled in 3ds MAX, textures in Photoshop, and obviously rendered with Vray. Its about 3 nights of work (8 PM - Midnight).

FIrst off, the candles were a last minute addition to the scene, so thats why the was and flames look kinda cheesy. I wanted to use Aura to do the flame, but I didn't have time to download it and learn it for this deadlne.

Also the composition of the objects in the scene was designed to accomodate the text on the right side, so thats why I left it in this post. I'd love to hear anybody's opinions/suggestions.

Well, I'm sure that card got many people to the party! Very nice wood and serviette texures. I also like the colors you've chosen. So, since it was not with Aura, how did you make the flames?

the pic is nice but the graphic design isnt that good. Its hard to se if the iviter is you or the media lab. I also think that you shcould work with more contrast and also decide if you want a modern look or a classy look on the type... but the rendering is nice.

Vekktah, I can't get to see where's the ambiguity in the typo choice? It looks modern and sober to me.

I think the rendering is great. just missing some caustics for the glass.

Nenad - thanks, I chose the colors after looking at the website for the Dralion Restaurant. I did the flames by drawing out a rough flame shape in 2d splines and extruding it. Then I chamfered the edges and dropped a meshsmooth on it. For the material I simply appiled a gradient in the diffuse map channel, the started with light blue, going to yellow, orange and then red.

vekktah - I posted this over on CGTalk, and I got ripped up pretty good about the graphic design, but one thing I can say in my defense is that the CORGAN media lab stamp on the side is a watermark I added just for posting, it wasn't on the invitation when it was printed. I should have clarified that when I posted originally.

As for the layout of the text, I am definitely not a grpahic designer! But every body at the party loved it, especially the guy who asked me to create it for him. Thanks for looking in.
