  • Aura Dragons

    Just playing around with the new ply2vrmesh converter and using some of the Stanford 3D Scanning Repository models (I hope they dont deem this as inappropriate use of their models )
    Then Spent a bit time with Aura making some dragon flames (thanks to the person who made the flame shader bcurve - I can't remember where I got it, but it was called blue-yellow-red-bright.bcurve - so thanks )

    Anyway - it was really a nice technical demonstration for me to amuse myself with (and make a new dual screen wallpaper for the new year) but I thought I'd share it with you all as its dragons and fire - and that's just cool!

    well i love the material on the dragon in blue, its perfect, but i believe the fire would look better if some sooty, black smoke was added, as it is now its too light.

        Pretty cool, I think the flame is appropriate since the dragons are obviously not real so the use butane or the like would be likely.

          Nice colors, I agree about the blue material looking much better.

          Have you tried a more extreme camera angle? Maybe over the back of the blue would give you the chance to use some DOF and emphasize that they are small models.

            Thanks for the feedback everyone - I's like to spend some more time on this image and make it sing a bit better.
            The texture on the blue dragon is mainly due to the actual model which is very high resolution and it's picking up the yellow of the flame.

            I think what I'll do next is just use the blue dragon (XYZ dragon as it's called) and make him breathe fire - as I have an idea for a cool looking flame, and put him in a darker more menacing environment.

            At the moment he's quite cute and I just want to pat him - when I get the time I'm going to model my own dragon - gulp

              Hi,

              Nice image! I think you should change the colour of the background, and maybe add some DOF for more emphasis. Nice flame!

                I aggree with you on the DOF issue J_Man - however I find render based DOF frustrating becasue of the repeated re-rendering required to get it right - and the model is so large that it's unworkable.
                For still images I like to make a Z-Depth pass in Render Elements and use PhotoshopCS Lens Blur - it's quicker and I have more control.
                Hmm - one way to do this is by sending the render to the backburner and then enabling Z-Depth through that - who know if it will work - especially with Aura - I doubt it but now Im curious......
