  • Spec Home Renders

    Hey Guys,

Thought I would share some shots from a simple spec home I did recently. Some of the materials arn't perfect, but not bad for a first attempt. Questions welcome.

    Thanks, Nick

Looking good! One of the things you can do about the really harsh edges on the appliance components in the kitchen is use a material with an edges texture for a bump map to round the corners off. I did a quick example using a stainless steel material in the images below. It's a great way to add the realism of rounded edges without actually having to manually round the edges in Revit. I attached the material, too.

The grass looks nice! Is that using displacement?

      Hey Ben,

Thanks for the comments, I will respectfully disagree with you regarding the appliances. I personally own both the rangehood and oven models in my own home and they look identical to how they are represented in this image. They are quite modern and have sharp non rounded edges, trust me my shins have come off second best a number of times! I appreciate you sharing the material, it could certainly come in handy. I love how natural the light looks in the kitchen image, especially around the sink.

I think I used the grass that you shared in another thread and I changed the Image to a more "Diverse" image to give a little more realism.let me know if you have any further questions

      Thanks, Nick

        Nick,

        That's understandable...sounds painful!

I see it now with the grass. The image you used looks good...a good mix of green and brown.

        Keep up the good work!

              Hay,
The lighting on your exterior renderings locks very realistic!
              How are you done this?

                Hey Samberk,

Thanks for the kind words, I used a HDRI from HDRI Haven, I found the HDRI's to have the best lighting. Others I have come across do not light up the model enough relative to the HDRI image, so it looked like the sun was out in the background but there was a cloud casting a shadow over my house. If I made the HDRI brighter, it would fix the problem but would wash out the sky. Aside from that some minor shadow and colour correction using the Vray Frame Buffer. I did tweak some colours in Photoshop, but very very minor. Let me know if you need anything else.

                Thanks, Nick

                    Hi.

What is your interior render settings? My interiors would always look dark and I had to turn on artificial lights everytime. I even bump my light fixture's intensity really high just to bright up my scene.

                      Hey Andrew,

Finding a good HDRI is the key and adjust the brightness to let the HDRI light the space. From memory the settings for this interior rendering are pretty much standard. HDRI is doing all the work.

                      Thanks, Nick

This might be a dumb question, but do you use an interior HDRI for interior scene? or an outdoor sky HDRI for an inteior scene? There is really not good Interior HDRI in the internet, and if you are lucky enough to find one, the rendered HDRI background are all zoomed in and vray revit does not have the option to scale HDRI's

                          Hey Andrew,

I'am using the same external HDRI for both the internal and external renders. The exposure had to be increased on the internal render to allow more light into the scene. As mentioned earlier, I used the HDRI from HDRI Haven, they seem to have well lit HDRI's on there website, I believe this is the HDRI I used:

                          https://hdrihaven.com/hdri.php?hdri=cloud_layers

There are many to choose from, you should be able to find on that suits your needs.

                          Thanks, Nick
