This is a townhome project that I provided renderings for a couple of years ago. It is now back as new but similar building type for Phase 3. Revised layout/config and new materials. Re did the landscaping as well. I will do one more version with alternate materials. Comments/Criticisms are welcome.

This scene file has given me fits. It is a third generation project. Started in probably Max 2014, Revised in 2016 and revised again in this iteration in 2018 - falling back to 2017 due to troubles. There's is something out of sorts with this and it's very prone to causing computer freeze up on render end. Renders and saves ok then working with some geo or tweaking some materials and next render = freeze up. I don't dare touch any of the Forest Pack stuff. To make things more problematic, the client is a very particular color tone freak but doesn't have the vocabulary or ability to describe or send references for what is desired. So lot's of tweaking which equals lots of freeze ups. I think I'm done but haven't heard back on whether or not my interpretations of "chocolate brown" and "deep bronze" fit the bill.2 Photosmark f.

You have to delete things one-by-one until you find out what is bad. I is a pain!Bobby Parker

Thanks for your replies
No it's not too heavy or complex. I think it may be due to the successive iterations thru the various versions of Max. Or more likely something I did.
I tried a variety of trouble shooting efforts. Did not delete things one by one. I did start with a new scene and merged stuff in one by one ish. Also put plain vray override materiel on everything and then turned materials back on one by one. The problem is I got inconsistent results from these efforts. It would render and save ok with one config and then crash when something else was added. Then go back to previous good config an it then crashes. Ghost in the Machine. Frustrating and time consuming to say the least.mark f.

Unfortunately it has not been a consistent situation. Not sure what causes it but it does freeze up with very high frequency. I will experiment a bit and see if I can determine a repeatable set off actions that always causes it. Thank you for offering to look into this
here is a topic where There is discussin about the trouble I had with this particular scene and some of the steps I have taken.

3dsmax act weird at times. Last week i was working on a project & it started giving me 'corrupt file' notification while auto saving. I saved the file at eod & next day when i opened it gave me error 'open failed' I tried opening auto back & out of 3 only 1 opened. I reworked on that & saved but it gave me exactly same problem while opening next day! i thn landed up splitting scene into several small parts & xreferencing them. This some how worked for me.

I get cannot save autobak and also error saving file, would you like to try again? When I try again it usually works. Weird. Happens occasionally with this file but also others. It's disturbing.mark f.
