  • WIP: The Torero

    Hey Guys,

As promised here is a glimpse of what i'm working on - my new Character Animation Project. It's called "The Torero" and guess what - this is also the Main Character - probably the only Character of the Animation. I started working on it a Month ago (working part time).

    Photoshop Concept:

    More Concepts
    Storyboard (work in Progress!)

    Vray Rendering Front

    Vray Rendering Back

    Details

    Edgeloop Layout
    Turntable (Xvid)
    Modelling Progress (Xvid)

The Gold pattern on the Jacket and the Trousers are painted in ZBrush, rendered with Vray Displacement. The Jacket is floating cause it will move via Cloth Dynamics. (LowPoly Cloth + Skinwrap Highres Cloth) The Materials are all Standart Mat's for now. No GI is activated. Actually Vray is used for Displacement only right now. (Of cause this will change) I will change minor Things here and there in the Mesh too but actually i'm pretty much finished with the Modelling of the Character.

Next thing i have to do is rigging and skinning, so it might be a bit longer before i can post more updates. I also can't say much about the Story, cause i don't want to take You the Surprise. Actually the Storyboard WIP already tells You too much . The Deadline for the Project is end of April.
    Hope You enjoy the Character.

As I was saying through all this time - excellent work and keep it up this way. Looking forward to see it rigged and making a simple animation.

Great style really like what you've done with the face. Will he get stockings?

Thanks for the Comments! Yes he will get Stockings. Maybe even pink ones like on the Concept.

Ok, here are some random updates that came from the rigging/skinnin/morph target phase.

Here's also a first test WalkCycle (I added a little squash and stretch to the Head, might be a bit too much )
            Hope you like it.

Nice update! This is looking good!
I think the squash on the head is a bit too much.. makes it look like a wobbly jellyhead. The elbows are a little stiff too. But it is coming along nicely. I love the morph target tests

And they rejected you as a student? what a shame!

                Excellent work!

Looking good Geddart. Have you considered the Animation Mentor Program as opposed to reapplying to the school?

                      Thanks Guys!

@Torgeir: Elbows... hm, yeah you're right. Later though, most of the time he will have his cloth towell thingie (what's the name of that btw?) in his hands. So i don't spend too much time on that now.

@Trapezium: Yes, i seriously thought about it and if they reject me again this year on the School you can be sure i'll try it at Animation Mentor. But, right now Animation Mentor is not my first Choice. First of all the school here is much more complete and you get a wider picture. One is studying 4 years here as opposed to 1.5 Years at Animation Mentor. Also the price is an argument. Although the school here is very good it's still free! (that's why the competition is very high) Furthermore i would see some other Parts of Germany too while i would probably stay here at my parents home when i would go to Animation Mentor. Animation Mentor and my own place would be definately too much for my Wallet. But yes. Animation Mentor is looking extremely interesting and i'm curious what the people that will go there have to tell about this new Concept.

Yeah, I see your point. Didn't realize it was free, I can see why it's somewhat hard to get into. Well, I wish you luck. Are they just looking for technical skills or artistic and storytelling also?

It is the same everywhere - if you want a free education, the Entrance exams are tough, but I am sure that you, Sascha, will be accepted this year.

I like it very much! A suggestion: when toreros walk they typically point their feet outward like ballerinas and their shoulders are way back, or the pelvis is pushed forward as they stretch the arm that holds the baret and /or the trophies 'rabo' or 'orejas'. This posture creates the typical quasi macho impression.

@Trapezium: They're focus is clearly on artistic and storytelling aspects. No pure Techheads are needed. So you need to show solid drawing skills and storyboard work too if you want to have a chance.

@Tisho: Hey Dude! Thanks for the Flowers. Please keep the Thumbs pressed!

@aroma: Good point! I will take this into account when animating! "Rabo", "Orejas" Cool i learned a new word today!

I hope i can put some updates together for tomorrow.

                              regards
