"...Was thinking of sending them to that expose book..."

I think you really should do that. The images are very, very good.
Just one thing I noticed, and that is because a recently did a white rug just like yours, on the edges of the rug you can clearly notice the displacement. With my rug what I did was using the soft selection I pulled down a lit bit the vertexes. That way the rug comes out perfect.

      Focusing

I read somewhere on the forum that if you have a black border say 1 pixel wide around your displacement map it stops the edges doing that.
Have tried it at it works!
Improved on the displacement texture to. Displacement rocks! (or rugs)

I'm trying to fix all my niggles on the images by Friday. If I can do that, then I shall enter the expose book. I have re-rendered 2 of them at silly resolution already so I should be able to do it.
Will probably enter the CGArchitect competition to. It's a bit scary though....

I sure hope these are going to be made into real stairs, great design and a terrific render to compliment the design

        About the displacement for carpets,
        http://www.vray.info/topics/t0102.asp

Basically 1-5 pixels what ever works best for each carpet. If you have simply used a procedural for the displacement, just render that out to a texture and then edit it in PS and give it a black border.

          DaForce

I hope they get made to as I am supposed to get paid on a commission basis. I have never designed something and then had it made, so I really want to see one of these made.
I say supposed to as the firm I work for won't sign a kind license agreement. Bit of a pain as I have half a dozen stair designs (some modelled already) but I'm a bit at a loss as to what to do with them all! They've already threatened to sue me if I go anywhere else with them (they say it's too close to one of there designs).
And to top it all, they aren't advertising the stair! so no-one knows about them!
I can't really annoy the firm to much as I still work for them (as a draughtsman) and need income etc.
They the only thing they've verbally agreed to is allow me to enter competitions!

Sorry about the rant.....just needed to get that of my chest I suppose.....at least they bought me viz and vray so the company is not all that bad......and they pay me resonably well.......just no recognition.

              geoff:

Sounds like your in abit of a "situation" there.

I wish you all the best luck, and I hope to see your stairs being manufactured soon.

I would suggest you consult a lawyer about their apparent threat to sue, sounds dodgy to me. If it is truely your own work then you should be able to do with it as you wish.

              Dont give up

Daforce the stairs are my design. They will pay me a commission on each sale. They just don't want me to go somewhere else to get them made! A bit strange I know.

A work in progress on this one

                finished this one

the third one will remain the same

Well unless they have a contract with you and you didnt design it in their office as their employee then you should be able to do with it as you please. but as DaForce pointed out you should talk to a lawyer "just in case"

Show someone who might have some sway the first half of this thread and maybe they'll advertise your designs after seeing the interest by other artists.

Finished them all, more or less as previous post.
Had a bit of spare time to do an extra one

Not quite how I wanted to look, but it's ok.
