I was running 64gb but dropped it down to 64 when I got the new CPU. I was rarely using more than 32gb and even at that while monitoring the usage when I could I averaged about 15gb to 22gb at any given time and my scenes are fairly heavy at 1.2gb to the latest at 4+gb for the max scene.

Im in the same boat and have a few Intel's in my farm and no problems with DR other than the Intel's running slower than the AMD's haha

Hi, may I ask you what exact RAM type you are using in your Threadripper 2990WX Machine? Is it the Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 MHz or an even faster one?
        Thanks, Thomas

Hi Thomas, I was using the Corsair Vengeance RGB 3000mhz and was running it stable just over the 3000 mark but wanted a bit extra speed and switched it out for the G.Skill Trident Z 3866 running nicely at 3200. ( got the G.Skill for next to nothing from a buddy and I know I wont hit the 3866 but it runs great at 3200 and not interested in pushing it further and my ADHD doesn't have the patients right now either lol)

However, my workstation is i-9 7980XE. So my question is: did anyone notice any issues while rendering with DR: intel workstation (e.g. i9-7900 series) and AMD Ryzen server (e.g. 2990WX)?
We use a mix of Intel and AMD on the farm for years. No problems.

We are about to build some of these machines. The RAM question is the biggest here too. I'm surprised you don't need more ram for more cores? 64gb is overkill?

All the thread rippers need 4 sticks of ram as it is quad channel (or a multiple of 4 sticks the other option being eight. The amount you put in depends how much ram your scenes need.

I'm ordering some 2990wx's next week. This is the plan atm: Anyone see any glaring issues?

Get yourself at least 1 X 2080Ti instead of that low end card? (then you have room to later get another one with and nvlink switch (although you may need a stronger PSU then also)
                  Kind Regards,

I am testing my 2990wx rig for last days now. And here's few thoughts when I saw your spec's:

                    - I would definitely go for 4 sticks of RAM. I tested my rig with 2 sticks (2x16GB) and the score on Cinebench R15 was arround 3000 pt. Then I added 2 more sticks (so 4 in total: 4 x 16GB) and the score was arround 5000 pt.
                    - if you want to buy a MSI MOBO I would go for MEG Creation. It keeps really low VRM temperatures. It is the one that I have.
                    - memory speed matters. I would go for the RAM that is at least 2933 Mgz
                    - if you are investing in such a monster then I recommend NVMe over "traditional" SSD. I got myself Samsung 970 EVO.

It's just a render box no need for graphics card, i just need it to boot-up.
Also probably not much need for a proper m.2 drive once it is loaded it is all in memory.
Going to be getting many of these so need to keep the budget in check.
                      Thanks for the advise!

But definitely take 4 sticks of RAM.
