  • MSI MEG X399 CREATION + 2990wx memory

    Hello ,

I just ordered this motherboard MSI MEG X399 CREATION and I want it to use alongside with 2990wx cpu,
in the qvl list is supported this type of memory HX432C18FBK2/32, it is 2x16gb (32gb)
could I use this in quad channel setup as 2x this dual channel kit (64gb)
if not what alternative would you recommend at 3200Mhz?

    many thanks,
    Filip

I have the same MOBO and PCU. I got myself a kit of 4 sticks G.Skill TridentZ 4 x 16GB (3200MGz CL14) and it is working fine. It seems that G.Skill TridentZ is the most often recommended memory fo Threadrippers. (CL16 is cheaper and I assume you will not notice any difference comparing to CL14 that I have)

      +1 to what Baastyan said
Gskill TridentZ is best recommended with high end Ryzen CPUs, get the 3200 Mhz ones. It is definitely worth the extra money
I used the 2990wx and Meg creation in 6 builds so far all using TridentZ RAM
In the screenshot below all cores are running at 3.8 GHZ on 1.225 Volts
Max temprature is 61 degrees under full load with an Enermax AIO
Score on Cinebench was around 5900 points
Also, I've been able to push this CPU to 4.1 GHz without issues on 3 machines
Temps were around 72 to 75C and voltages of 1.37 volts or so

I have 2990WX too, OC to 3.8Ghz all cores, stable at 1.2v, i`m using 128gb ram and i highly recommend G.Skill too. I have F4-2933C14Q2-128GTZRX , timing 14-14-14-34, it`s samsung B-Die btw. It`s not cheap but i did multiple benches vs other ram kits and even ECC rams, also on both win and LINUX. G.Skill Trident Z is a clear winner.

          thanks for your help!
          I am getting the cheaper alternative - G.Skill DIMM 64 GB DDR4-3200 Quad-Kit [F4-3200C16Q-64GTZR]
regarding to the cooling I am considering very well reviewed air NOCTUA NH-U14S TR4-SP3 covers all cpu, quiet, safe, quite good results
or Liquid Cooler Enermax LiqTech TR4 II RGB 280 [ELC-LTTRTO280-TBP] but have read old versions even nev rev.2 could leak?
do you think is there really big differences in temperature results?

The Noctua is very good.. it should do the job!
But it is very massive and will require good airflow in your case
The Enermax or H115i pro will be handy if you plan on overclocking or if you have multiple GPUs to make the best out of your case Airflow
And they are usually quieter under load with OC
