  • Windows OS questions

    Hey!

Do you guys see any risks running a set-up where we have a different version of OS installed on the actual workstations and the render farm?

I am in a spot where I might need to run our render farm on Windows Server 2016, and the client OS would be Windows 10 Enterprise.

The workflow is that an artist would build and create the scene on the client OS, and also do test renders. But would submit the final render to our farm.

Could this somehow have an impact on the final output? I heard a rumor that one should never mix OS in a production env.

    Regards
    Rickard

I have no experience using Windows Server 2016 or ... but what I can say i that our workstations are Windows 10 Pro and the render farm machines are mix of Win7 (most of them) and Win 10. I use them both for DR and BB. I am working in that workflow on daily basis for over 3 years now and have not noticed any issues.

There shouldn't be any issues mixing different OSes for the client and the servers.
