One last question guys....sorry im not too crash hot when it comes to hardware.

So I have this motherboard - https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard...-UD4-rev-10#ov and a 980 Ti currently but want to grab a couple of second hand cards to use it to augment the main box

Will 2 of these below fit ok on my motherboard ? He will sell them for $1400 AUD for 2 of them
Only using 3 slots so from what I can see it should work. Is it just a matter of slotting them in and booting up?

Really good price for these 2 cards,
they are blower style and each card is dual slot
You can add them to your old system without issues, just to be sure what make is your old 980 Ti?
Even if it is 3 slots, you will be able to fit the other 2 cards in the third and fourth PCIe slots, only problem is if your old 980Ti is not blower style, so it will be running hotter
One thing to consider is that you only have 750 Watts PSU, the old 980Ti consumes a lot of power, so you shouldn't run 3 cards on this PSU
So you either get a 1000+ PSU or run the 2 1080tis in your old system, and maybe move the 980Ti to the new system to be used for viewport/display performance(so windows don't take up VRAM of one of your 2080tis, so it is all dedicated to GPU rendering)

Adding them you will get an error on startup(old machine if you run more than 2 cards), saying you should enable above 4G decoding in bios, Once it is enabled it might take longer to start up windows for one or 2 times, then you are all set.
He said he was using them in gaming and machine learning and they are still covered by Warranty.
When they arrive, you should stress test them to make sure they don't have issues

Even for the new machine, for more than 2 cards, you will need to change (in bios) the bandwidth of the second and third cards to x8
Not sure if you still need to do this manually with the 2990wx

for Nvlink to work with Vray, you need SLI to be enabled in Nvidia control panel
what most people do is disable SLI unless they need to use Nvlink in GPU rendering, SLI used to cause few issues(not related to Vray)
But you should be able to use any combination of GPUs with Vray

The Meg creation has 11 power phases and can keep up nicely with heat,
the Zenith had a cooling upgrade specifically for the 2990wx/2970wx , which helps keep the VRM cool

hi Muhammed_Hamed; Would you recommend this board pair with 2990wx? ASRock X399 Professional Gaming sTR4
              thanks!

ASRock Mobos don't ship here so I didn't get a chance to test this specific board,
you will probably be fine on stock speeds, Make sure to install the latest bios updates.
For the 2990wx I use Meg Creation and Zenith extreme, the Meg creation has the best VRM cooling in the industry and it has 11 power phases for overclocking, I got few CPUs to 4.2 GHz stable without issues
Zenith extreme should ship with a cooling upgrade that will help a lot, and it overclocks nicely..
I would recommend one of these 2 for the 2990wx, they are worth the extra money even if you don't plan on overclocking or running 24/7 .. good temps will guarantee your hardware to last longer
Also avoid any Enermax AIOs, they fail in few months.. I have replaced many of these recently and now the replacement is failing again
Use the Dark Rock Pro TR4, it works nicely with threadripper. for AIO check out NZXT kraken and Corsair H115i Pro

iirc the nividia drivers will not allow 4x 2080ti plus nvlink memory sharing pairs together ( i.e. 2cards, you can use nvlink to get a bit less than 22gb , but put another 2 cards in, and youre back to 11gb..)

cant find the thread where this stupid limitation was discussed. there is a specific driver where this does work, but newer ones have it disabled.

a "clever" trick to push you onto the pro cards i guess.

for this reason ive given up on machines with more than 2 gpus -for now at least..

There are many people who are on 8x 2080tis/ 10x2080tis
Using 417 drives, Nvlink works on all pairs without issues, 418 drivers are blacklisted by Vray and no one is using them..
super gnu Do you have a link to this info?

                        Thanks!
I haven't seen any posts on this yet, will have to check with Sebastian Michaliski, if there is a workaround or what others are planning to do

Very good read - thanks everyone for the useful info above.

I'm also about to build a new workstation centered around the TR 2990wx - mostly for use with Vray 4, cpu and GPU. I also use Phoenix FD
Motherboard - planning to use a Gigabyte X399 Aorus Extreme TR4
GPU's - I currently have (3x) blower style in another machine which I will move into this new build and upgrade more GPUs as I can afford to over time.

Can anyone recommend a reliable AIO cooler for this CPU? Had planned to get Enermax TR4 liquid cooler until I read they leaked.

Thinking of using the Fractal Define XL R2 case - so I think that fits various radiator sizes.

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks

                            Hey Thomas!

I have used the Aorus Extreme board recently and it is been working nicely. You can use up to 4 cards with this baord
About AIO, don't buy anything Enermax for this platform. It is not a leak issue, rather corrosion that leads to failing pump. I've also tried the replacement Gen 2 that I got for free and now they are having the exact same issue :/
For now I use NZXT kraken X62, it doesn't cover the entire socket but it does a good job. Make sure it is TR4 compatible on buying it
Another option is Corsair H115i or H150i, I have used these 2 on few builds, requires a mounting bracket though.
For Case I would recommend Be Quiet Silent base 801, comes with 3 good and reliable fans, 2 in front and one in the back
You can add more fans so you have 3 fans in front for intake and 2 fans in top for exhaust and one rear fan for exhaust. It also includes a fan hub for up to 8 fans
The extra fans I use are also from Bequiet, silent base 140 mm .. they works nicely and silently.. and they don't have RGB which I like
Another option is Lian Li 011 Air, which can equip up to 12 fans, and 2 power supplies. You will need 1600 Watts for 4x 2080ti + 2990wx
With this setup there will be a lot of room for OC for both GPUs and CPU
Posted some pictures of this specific case in one of the builds here

Muhammed_Hamed Thanks so much for getting back to me and sorry it's taken so long for a reply. I am now about to buy a couple of 2080Ti - which I will add to my current system as I want to explore how NVlink works in practice on large scenes. Having done way too much reading, I'm kean to see what the next gen 7nm Threadrippers are like (think they are due out this August) before building a whole new system...so will wait a few more months before a major rebuild. Thanks for all your tips on cases, cooling and the link to your ryzen 2700x build.
