  • New GPU's on the horizon?

Just wondering if anyone that's kept their finger on the pulse lately has info...
I'm about to get another set of 'top-end' GPU's and wondering if anyone thinks there is any benefit on holding off for the next great release. (i dont have to have them right now...I've got a set of RTX 2080's now..building machine for new hire and could put a 2060 in there for the time being...) Probly going to go with a couple RTX 2080 Super's....(the RTX 2080 ti is just too damn much to spend for the ROI). Just wondering if anyone thats been paying attention to technology better than me has an opinion. I was thinking...if they release a RTX 2080 ti Super for $900 next month, I'm gonna be kicking myself... ;p

I don't think you should ever wait since there is always something new on the horizon. It also seems the improvements are so incremental, the new stuff isn't anything earth-shattering anyway.

I hear ya....same advice I give. I'm not really 'working on my new build and seeing if I should wait.', tho. I was going to throw a 2060 into their system and be done with it, but had the thought of upgrading my 2080's and passing on my hand-me-downs. Just seeing if there's any news/speculation on the next great thing....doesn't seem like there is... (BTW, I think I'm just gonna go with a pair of 2080ti's....I hate not having the best.....(aside from dropping 2.5k on a titan!!!!)) ;p

Yeah, I have the Titan. I want a second, but I am not sure if it'll work on my current machine. DELL says yes, but people here say no.

Huh...I reckon that has something to do with PCI lanes and double processors...? Maybe there's a way to test with some spare gpu's to see? (im sure you've already been there....)

BTW, I ended up just going with the double RTX 2080 ti's. Main thing was that I didn't want to by them, then have 'supers' launch a month later...and for cheaper. Seems like Nvidia has vehemently denied they will release a 2080 ti Super....so reckon these will be the best (under the Titan) for this gen. So hopefully I can be content for a while.... ;p

On a different note....have you played with Vray Cloud at all yet? I started using the cloud during the beta and loved it....used it so much that I built my last workstation around the 8700k overclocked to 5g's....and glad I did. So snappy...just does everything so fast, and still renders pretty decent too...but send large/long renders to the cloud. (I actually have 2 identical 8700k machines...so test renders run pretty quickly here using Swarm. (and adding a 3rd with this new machine.)) Anyway, just wondering if you've debated a system with faster modeling/single core speed with how things are moving these days.
