  • 4 x 2070 Super or 2 x 2080 Ti for GPU rendering?

Since both options cost roughly the same, looking purely at performance, which will be better, 4 x 2070 Super's or 2 x 2080 Ti's? I am aware that 2070 Super has 8GB of VRAM while 2080 Ti has 8GB.

According to https://benchmark.chaosgroup.com/next/gpu, 2080ti x2 is roughly as fast as 2070 x3. Keep in mind the benchmark is still RTX OFF, where V-Ray in Max in Maya is RTX ON.
I would still go 2080ti, as it has 11GB memory and you will save some PCIe slots for the future upgrades.

I should hasten to add that regardless of the RTX option, the plain CUDA engine hasn't gotten slower, on the contrary!

2x 2080tis as they use nearly double the NVlink bandwidth, if you will be using that
And 2 cards are easier to cool, you won't need blower style cards for this, and you can go for Triple-fan design
2 cards = upgradability in future
Maybe if you won't use NVlink or the extra VRAM and you won't add more cards any time soon, consider 4x 2070s

I am curious to know what will happen with this out of core memory when it comes... how that will affect the equation.
