  • DDR4 versus DDR3 for gneral 3D and rendering

So I'm upgrading a machine to the new Ryzen 9000 at and an X570 motherboard.

How much difference does DDR4 versus DD3 ram make? Is it worth upgrading immediately, or can I stick with my old RAM for now?

The cost certainly seems different and much higher than I expected.

Ryzen 9000? What's that? Did you mean 3000?

Anyways, you can't use DDR3 on an AM4 socket motherboards. You'll need to buy DDR4 RAM if you want to use any Ryzen CPU. Yes, the price difference between DDR3 and DDR4 is big, because DDR3 is very old now. It's not because DDR4 is overly expensive. You should have seen DDR4 prices two years ago.

Imho I use ddr3 and ddr4 side by side, I don't see any difference. I think the speed of dd3 was never maxed out because of other bottlenecks in the system like IO from disk or even ssd going through mobo would be much slower then ddr3 could perform. I know what you mean tho ddr3 is much cheaper but as said its obsolete now, I think ddr4 is 250 pin and ddr3 is 240 pin ram, so you can't simply plug one or the other.
