  • Water cooling for 3990X

    Hi,

is there any closed water cooler solution for 3990X? I heard that standard solutions like Kraken X72 and others from NZXT has small mounting on CPU so they dont cover whole CPU. What is your experiences please?
vlado What is your cooling system and other specs please? And do you have any finished tests?

    Thank you all.

go for a custom loop, its not so scary, quite fun if you enjoy that kinda thing i suggest a heatkiller iv block and a dcc or d5 pump /reservoir combo and a 360 or 480 radiator.. compression fittings are easy and safe and some 10/13 tube with anti kink springs is the easiest option tubing wise. wrt. AIO coolers im afraid somebody else would have to answer, although i know to steer clear of enermax!

I dont know about custom loop a single thing, so I am little bit scary.

you just need enough skillz to connect a pipe from a cooling block, to a reservoir/pump, then from there to a radiator, then from there back to the waterblock. if you can use a pair of pliers, you can do watercooling.

theres a bit of fiddling round to do when you first add coolant ( i suggest simple distilled water, maybe with some additive to stop stuff growing, car antifreeze will do) as you have to get all the air out of the system.. however there are a million websites and youtube videos that explain it better than i can.. end result is a cooler which puts any AIO to shame.

having said all that.. im sure there are probably some decent aio for the threadripper around somewhere... as you mentioned, key (particularly for the 3990 with its 8 processor dies) is to have good cpu coverage. the heatkiller iv block is a 1.2KG metal lump which covers the cpu entirely..

the most intimidating thing about custom watercooling is choosing the components.. especially tubes and connectors.. there are a lot of types and measurements around.. however should you need any advice.. i would be happy to spec you out the right connectors. must admit i dont know which is the best radiator/reservior pump combo at the moment... i built my cooler (external and waaaaay oversized) a good few years ago.

it can cost a couple of hundred, but if you are spending 4k on a processor, its easy to justify the best cooling!
