  • Good solution for remote work with 3ds max and vray

I'm trying to find a good software/solution to replicate my workstation setup (dual 4k monitors) to a remote workstation (also dual 4k monitors)
Fiddling around with TGX, HP ZCentral, VPN's etc.

I would like to ask if anybody here has some experiences and recommendations to work like that?
Splashtop is another i hear good things of.
    Feedback is welcome!

Best image quality I've gotten is windows remote desktop connection, we're using a solution called pulse secure for our vpn authentication thingies. Hp Remote (might be different to central that you mentioned) degrades the image a lot for me - like low quality jpeg. I'm using dual 1920 x 1200 monitors to mirror my work setup.

i've tested a bunch of these. the biggest issue you'll have is that dual 4k monitors over remote is a huge lift for the encoding and networking. prepare for a struggle. Dual 1440p works very well though.

IF you have great internet, office has great internet, and fast machine on both sides :
teradici is what our studio uses. Its really good if you have a lot of network bandwidth. running dual 4k would burst over 100 mbits for sure from time to time. Image quality is really good with the default or CPU Ultra mode For dual 4k you'll have to use either CPU Ultra or GPU Ultra modes (gpu ultra image quality is not great tho).
we have some of the zero clients. I'm pretty sure they don't make one that can work with more than one 4k monitor. But we've tested the ones that can drive two 1440p monitors.
Teradici can be pretty confusing to setup, don't be surprised if you end up reading a lot of documentation.

IF you have any issue with slow internet or:
another solution that i've been testing and i absolutely love is Parsec Warp. It started as a remote gaming app but hands down its the snappiest and uses the least amount of network bandwidth. So i'd recommend you try Parsec first. The free version will let you test a single monitor up to 4k with 4:2:0 color encoding. the Warp version works with 4:4:4 color, dual monitors and even wacom tablets.
Another good thing about Parsec is that you prob don't need to connect to VPN first, but you can if you want to be extra secure.

HP also can work well for slow network connections. but you have to make sure you enable the Advanced Video Encoding in the options. You'd prob need to connect to VPN first.

        Things I didn't like :
Splashtop - its a bit laggy, even after configuring everything to be as low latency as possible. The color encoding is basic with no option for 4:4:4 so this disqualified it.
Windows RDP - FREE! Can be laggy. Doesn't play nicely with Maya or nuke so we disqualified it. Maybe its ok with max

Alot of the above is very subjective (these are my opinions) so ideally you try them for yourself. And the biggest thing is going to be the networking between your home station and the remote one. It can totally make or break the whole thing.
