  • Recommended 3990X build with min. 128gb Ram

    Hey guys,

I wanted to know if someone can recommend a 3990x build. I'm especially interested into the best mainboard + ram combination. Because we got one 2970wx build and I had problems with running 128gb ram and the specified speed.

So if anyone got a decent stable running 3990x build, I would really appreciate getting the parts list.

also interested - i had major issues with ram speed on a 2990wx build with 128gb

I've looked a little bit at the mainboard manufacturer and the supported ram list and the MSI TRX40 Pro 10G should be compatible HX432C16FB3K4/128. It supports 4 and 8 modules of that kit.
I dont know if the performance suffer a lot when not using all ram slots. 256gb is to expensive at the moment, but have this option for the future isnt that bad i think

We have a 3990x on Asrock Creator with 256GB of ram at 3200mhz. The RAM modules are CMK64GX4M2E3200C16. zero issues.

Since a few folks mentioned issues with 2990wx, we have two of these with 128 gb of ram with no issues now. if you switch on XMP it prob won't work and thats the issue we had. After verifying the max speed allowed by the motherboard when filling all the memory channels we saw that the speed needed to be lowered. After that it wasn't a problem. Ram speed for a Ryzen workstation isn't nearly as important as a gaming computer anyway.

          Thx for the response.
Will have a look at your components.

I did the same with our 2970 build, disabled xmp, and lowered memory speed. But I wasnt really happy with that solution because, we paid for more memory speed and the system couldnt handle.
