  • Vray 5 - Support for New AMD Cards 6900XT ?

    Hello,

I'm looking to build a new workstation, and amd have recently announce their new gpu. Do you think vray will support this gpu in a nearly future ?. Regards.

AFAIK there’s no plan for AMD support in Vray, I hope that they are looking in to AMD at least for Lavina since now there’s raytracing support.

I hope they will. But It's really hard for AMD to be in the place. Cuda environnement in Studio's are everywhere. And a lot of software brand will wait maybe and see what amd have to offer ?.

But they are very agressive about the price of their cards so... it's an interesting information.

There are two issues I guess. One is about AMD drivers on Windows probably, for example Octane and Redshift have engines that works on AMD but only using Metal drivers on MacOS, they are still unable to do the same on Windows because of the drivers. The other problem is that Chaosgroup basically have to build and maintain yet another engine, and since they already maintain Vray and Vray GPU using CUDA it will need quite a bit of extra work. Of course I hope they’ll reconsider AMD platform for the future but I do not see that coming anytime soon, and even if they decide to build an engine for AMD today it will still take year(s).
