  • Threadripper Pro

    Hello,
I'm considering replacing my workstation in the near future with a threadripper based PC.
I saw that AMD now has a PRO version of the threadripper. But apart from being able to install more than 256 GB of RAM are there any advantages to choose the PRO over the regular version ?

More PCI-E lanes, but from what I read, it barely renders faster in the tests I saw. Its not worth the extra cost if youre not using over 256GB ram or filling it with stuff to use up the pcie lanes. I bought a 3990x machine a few weeks ago and had this same decision to make. I bought 256gb ram and I sometimes get to 75% so doubt Id need anymore than that.

I was looking into a new AMD render node as well, I was hoping there were new threadrippers but alas I don't see any news. I have a 3970x at the moment. But not sure if I should wait for newer CPUs to be released or not.
