  • Sluggish New Computer

    Hi guys,
My work computer has recently been upgraded but it still seems to be running very slow. Trying to model anything in 3DS Max or do any kind of rendering takes quite a long time considering how simple my scenes generally are.
The mouse will sometimes freeze and try to catch up etc, and will sometimes (quite a lot actually) crash.
I'm fairly new to the 3D world, and I don't have much knowledge when it comes to computer specs either, so please bear with me. I'm a graphic Designer who predominantly works with Adobe, so this is all quite foreign to me at this stage.

Can anyone tell me whether or not my specs are suitable (or good) for 3D work? If it is, I need to look in to why its running so slow.
    My computer specs are:
    • Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz
    • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
    • 32.0 GB RAM
    • ASRock z490 phantom gaming 4/ac motherboard
Not sure if there are other specs that are important to know, but I see people posting these ones, so hopefully its enough for someone to help me.

    Cheers,
    Tegan

Hi Tegan. Could you run a RAM diagnostic and see what that says? Do you have the latest video card drivers installed?

      Hi Tegan,

Do you have any other programs running while working in Max? Try closing any other software that might be running in parallel with 3ds Max including stuff that runs in the background such as apps in the system tray. As Bruce mentioned, make sure you have the latest graphics card drivers installed. Also check if you have the latest Windows updates.
