  • Threadripper workstation - thoughts on GPU?

    Hello,

I am about to buy a new workstation, which will mainly be used for sketchup modelling + vray rendering (but also autocad, photoshop, archicad etc).
I will go for a threadripper 3990x, but I am not really sure about the GPU. This is the setup I'm looking at right now:

    CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X - 64C/128T, 4.3GHz, 280W TDP
GPU: ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 3060 OC 12GB V2
Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX TRX40-E GAMING / TRX40
    RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 64GB (4x16GB) / 3200MHz / DDR4 / CL16 / CMK64GX4M4E3200C16
    Power supply: Corsair RM1000x / 1000W / 80+ Gold
    Cooler: Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 U-Type Premium Cooler
    SSD: Samsung 980 Pro series SSD 2TB M.2 (MZ-V8P2T0)

Any thoughts on this? What would be the advantage of having a more expensive ie. better GPU? What would be an optimal choice of GPU if the purpose of the workstation is quick skethup modelling and (CPU-based) vray rendering?

Hi sameyo and welcome to the forum

Asus TUF 3060 12 GB is a great value GPU at the moment, it will be great for your modeling/CAD/Photoshop
I have one myself, it has a massive tripe fan cooler which makes the card silent. Temperature is usually below 50 degrees at load

And you will be able to add more GPUs later if you plan on using Vray GPU.

    Best,
