  • NEW PC Setup - which flavour of 3090?

    Hi guys

Looking to get a quote on something like so (for VRay GPU rendering, and also various realtime engines raytracing use)

I don't want to be overclocking, so everything will run at stock, and I would like to keep temps under control, ie not go to 100 degrees C!

I'm unlikely to add another GPU, so it will be a single
With the various makes and flavours of the 3090, is there any that stand out from the rest?
    for example:
Asus ROG Strix 3090 OC White
    Gigabyte AORUS 3090 XTREME
    MSI 3090 Suprim
    Gigabyte 3090 VISION OC
    EVGA 3090 XC3 Ultra
    ZOTAC Gaming 3090 Trinity

For the actual system, these are the components I'm looking at (its whats available locally)
    • AMD Ryzen 9 5950X
    • NZXT Kraken X63
    • Asus X570 Crosshair VIII Dark Hero
    • NZXT H710
    • HyperX Predator 2x32GB DDR4 PC4-25600 HX432C16PB3K2/64 (64GB) X2 = 128GB
    • Corsair HX850i
    • Samsung M.2 NVME 980 Pro 1TB (OS)
    • Samsung M.2 NVME 980 Pro 1TB (Realtime Projects, Davinci Cache etc)
    • RTX 3090, whichever flavour!

Whats the difference with Corsair HX850, and the HX850i varient???
Should I be looking at the Corsair HX1000?
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

I vote for msi ventus oc, 256gb ram, 2tb ssd (faster, than 1tb). Mobo wise - msi is good. My trx40 is just cheap and very reliable so far. As for cooling - water only Got custom stuff for cpu and simple corsair waterblock for 3090. 57gpu 75cpu when they render both at the same time. With almost quite noctua triple coolers and single midsize ek 360radiator.
Using seasonic titanium 1000. And now bought CP1500ePFCLCD backup battery, so now it is all protected and stable.
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

Sounds like a nice system Paul, but that will totally kill my budget. I'm already paying double over here for hardware, compared to US prices. The TRX40 is for threadrippers and I'm only going Ryzen 9 5950X

also the MSI RTX 3090 Ventus is not available here

Does either the CPU or the Cooler ship with thermal paste by the way???

Noctua does. Dont use any of kryonaut sh8te. It scratched my threadripper and waterblock. Pure piece of scum.

              Hi Morne,

3090 SuprimX and 3090 ROG Strix are the most expensive cards. Out of box they are faster than the rest, and use a higher TDP
They have insane cooling, they will run mostly silent on stock. I have 2x 3090s SuprimXs myself, by far the best GPUs I ever owned
If you find a deal on either, go for it

Comes next is EVGA FTW3, GamingX trio, Nvidia Founder's Edition, great GPU as well. Good cooling and performance but doesn't catchup up to the previous 2

I'm not a big fan of Aorus Extreme line-up.. Very high pricing and doesn't catchup with the rest + many complaints on the Gigabyte cards recently

Other good cards are Asus TUF and EVGA Hybrid, they are great cards for the price with good cooling.

EVGA XC3 and Zotac Trinity cards should be avoided, I own a Zotac Trinity 3090 myself. VRAM temperature jumps to 100 degrees after a few minutes of rendering.
Make sure to look this up before you buy, it is called GPU memory junction temperature which affects most 3090s and 3080s on the market except for ones I mentioned above(because I own/tested them)

Also avoid, Gigabyte Vision, Gigabyte Gaming OC they have terrible VRAM thermals

Rest of the system looks great!

No need, 850 is plenty.. I'm running 3060 + 3090 on 850, peak wattage is 650 Watts at most
The 850i you can control with ICUE software, to monitor wattage and whatnot .. if the difference is 10 Euros or so why not

              Best,
              Muhammed

About that cooling stuff - my ventus got itchy noise all around the third cooler... So, had to order new one from aliexpress. And those on suprim reminds me of my own coolers That is why, I ended up using pure watercooled solution. It was already warranty void About the speed - my ventus OC is working around 1930mghz. So, I'm not sure anybody should be paying a lil extra for the top notch 3090. I vote for ventus oc! No gig for sure.

A waterblock is always the best case scenario, specially for a quieter system.
I had a Ventos OC 3090 a few months back, it does have the VRAM heating issues. VRAM jumps to +100 after a few minutes of rendering

And here is a Gigabyte Gaming OC card, 100 degrees as well

This heating VRAM issue is not rare, infact most cards have it except the very expensive ones I listed above

Hm, never had tjunction issues, even when my ventus oc was with stock cooling. Tho a friend of mine had issues with founders, ended up changing the termopads. Also coolers that are selling on aliexpress are the original ones Also available for top asus and gigs. They do have some crap coolers too.

What I liked about ventus oc is its quite reasonable power system, what looks like just pure stock + they never had that crappy poscap issue.

Looks at this beauty Tho it was before the waterblock for ventus. Can't find new pics.

Double checking Muhammed_Hamed these are the top 3 we're looking at right?

                        MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Suprim X 24GB GDDR6X - 1860Mhz

                        WHITE ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3090 OC 24GB GDDR6X - 1890Mhz

                        ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3090 24GB GDDR6X - 1725Mhz

So the 1st Strix is the White, OC version at 1890Mhz and the 2nd Strix is the regular black one at 1725Mhz

Those pretty much the top choices?

Also, the Kraken X63 seems to come with pre-applied thermal paste. Is that all I need or should I be scraping that off and getting a proper tube of paste?

                          Hi Morne

Are these in stock ? it is great honestly
The 2 ROG cards are identical in cooling and performance, although the white version will be 200-300 more expensive
SuprimX has a slightly better cooler than ROG, but honestly both cards are best of the best GPUs right now

See if you can find a good deal on either of them, and make your buying decision. The white one is usually more expensive, but you can check as well

                          All the best!

And about the cooler, it comes with applied thermal paste which is enough
One rare case if the unit is old stock and air makes it to the paste, there is a tiny chance this paste will be completely dry/frozen and you will need to remove it with isopropyl alcohol
Just give it a slight touch to make sure it is not entirely dry, then it should be enough for the job

After initially indicating stock, my supplier seems to be struggling to get any of the top3 3090s specified.

So instead of going for al alternative like the fast 3080Ti with only 12GB ram, I'm entertaining the possibility of the slower RTX A5000 but still with 24GB ram.......

Any pros/cons besides the ram that anybody want to mention between the faster 3080Ti with less ram and the slower A5000 with more ram?

I mean is the answer pretty much in my question?

                              Kind Regards,
