  • an old 2990wx with nvlinked 3090

    Hello,

Instead of investing in a new threadripper I am considering the switch from CPU and testing the GPU rendering on my current 2990wx.
I have done some research but cannot find any similar build and as an amateur I need some advice/confirmation.
What do you think? Is this setup worth it?

    -meg creation x399
    -2990wx (1080ti to remove)
    -2x 3090 4 slot nvlink
-thermaltake p3 vertical GPU setup with riser cables

    thanks, F

    Hi filip

Your CPU and Motherboard are great, they should do fine with V-Ray GPU and a multi-GPU setup
The only issue is that this case cannot house 2 GPUs with Riser cables, I think only one is possible. You don't need riser cables here

And you need at least 1300 Watts power supply for this build with 2x 3090s

If you have more questions let me know

    Best,

Hi Muhammed and thanks for the reply,

according to these images that seemed to me that could be possible, but still one gpu very close to the front glass (I can keep that glass away) and other one very close to mobo,
will try to do more search on this.

Thanks for the pictures, thermals will be worse on the vertical mount for sure.
There is barely any breathing room for the fans, being close to the side glass and the board from the other side.
