I have tried 11 different intel machines, 11900 to 14900 models, and ALL will crash from 3d max and Vray CPU render. I can't find anything about this online, except for a few articles about Intel cpu's crashing in some AAA games. Does anyone else have this experience?

Hi harold_gainer and welcome to the forums,
We have had many reports of instability with the 13900k and 14900k, BSOD or a restart when rendering with V-Ray. This is because of Motherboards pushing the CPUs over their recommended limits. You will need to update the BIOS for the affected workstations, then force Intel limits in BIOS settings. See this video for more information
The video has a good explanation of the issue overall, but the 11900 CPUs should be fine. The instability is only about 13900k and 14900k. On another note, undervolting the CPUs with Intel's utility on Windows could avoid this instability
Forcing the Intel limits in BIOS will affect the performance, keep an eye on that.
Best,
Muhammed

Good to know actually I was looking into making a workstation with these, but I'll hold off and stick with AMD then.

Thanks for the information Muhammed. I DO have the issue with an 11900k machine as well. A temporary workaround for others not wanting to go into BIOS or on a deadline- turn CPU boost off in windows Power Plan. It's rock stable but obviously lower Ghz.
This should be a scandal for intel. never again going with them.Last edited by harold_gainer; 25-06-2024, 01:00 PM.

An updated list of hardware that performs badly, by Chaos' own experience and customer reports would be nice to have, so we wouldn't have to bother with troubleshooting or have at least an oversight of what is performing well, so we know what to buy and to avoid.

Thanks for the suggestion Vizioen
The reports about Intel instability have been all over the web recently, although I understand that people would love to hear it from Chaos. We have a policy to not endorse 3rd party hardware and software, I tried in the past to tell people to avoid certain Ampere GPUs from one partner that overheat and cause trouble. I was not able to get the content approved to be published. At least I'm able to direct people on the forums usually, if someone asks for buying advice I can tell them A is better than B or B is problematic
Best,
Muhammed
