  • 4090 RTX power cables melting?

Hello, What are peoples experiences with using Nvidia 4090 cards to render for days in V-ray GPU mode in relation to reports of power cables melting? I will be installing an Asus ROG non-OC 4090 later today and wondered if the included cable is the best option or are there better 3rd party options? Any other advice or share experiences would be appreciated.

What has your experience been thus far Muhammed_Hamed ?
    Thanks

Attach the connector correctly and you are unlikely to have an issue. Put it on poorly and you create a high impedance connection that rapidly heats up with high current.

No issues on my side, with 3x 4090s for nearly 2 years running.
Joelaff's advice is spot on, make sure you install the connector all the way in, without anything like a side panel applying pressure on it
Another advice, as the case with any new hardware. Use the V-Ray Benchmark loop option or your choice of synthetic stress test for a few hours to make sure your new GPU is working as expected
Lets us know how this goes

      Best,

Thank you for sharing your experience. Are you using the power cable that came with the video card or the one that came with the power supply? I was gonna use this:

          https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BLXYJ8VR

instead of what came with the video card as I use a HX1200 corsair power supply. Its 2 PCI-e cables instead of 4. Not sure if thats a good thing or not.

Swapping the PSU cables is not a good practice from personal experience, the converter that is bundled with the GPU should work just fine
Either that or having one of the new Power supplies with native support for 12VHPWR

If it helps knowing I have 4x 4090s in total (2 of those for more than a year) and fortunately I have no issues with the cables melting I did try to make sure the cables are plugged in all the way - and rechecked it multiple times So far so good!
