  • Workstation upgrade for faster GPU rendering with Vray for Rhino 8

Hi, I am looking to upgrade my current PC so that I can do faster renders. I use Vray for Rhino 8 with GPU rendering. The specs of my PC can be found below. The render time significantly increases(to almost being unusable) when I use any displacement (even in just a small area). I also tend to use a lot of Vray scatters for vegetation.

Would someone be able to point me in the right direction of which parts I can upgrade in my PC or even a whole new build?

Any other advice for how to improve render time with heavy models (1.5gb+) would be appreciated.

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6C/12T Unlocked 4.4GHz AM4 65W with Wraith Stealth Cooler
GPU: Inno3D Geforce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB Twin X2 Graphics Card
Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H WiFi AM4 mATX Desktop Motherboard
    Ram: 32GB
    SSD: Crucial P3 Plus 1TB PCIe M.2 2280 SSD
PS: Thermaltake Toughpower 750W 80+ Gold Modular Power Supply

    Thanks in advance.

Hi daniel_zhang and welcome to the forums,

Please check this guide on V-Ray GPU performance optimizations, please let me know if any of the tips in this guide helps improve your performance. With displacement you might be running into high GPU memory usage, check my guide here for optimizations

For a new system, you could probably just replace your GPU with a new one, the RTX 5080 should double your rendering performance. But you will need to wait until the end of March for prices to come down. The RTX 5080 should be about 1000 Euros
Upgrading your system memory to 64 GB could be helpful as well, 32 GB might not be enough for displacement and larger scenes.

Let me know if you have questions

    Best,
