  • Using renderslaves for both GPU and VRay renders simultaneously?

First of all, it just works great for me on my Quadro FX 2800M card!!!

Me as many others are now planning for new hardware configurations since this release kind of turns everything up-side-down in a positive way.

On my rendering machines, can I configure them with GTX 480 cards and then use them to both render final VRay renderings and to have them doing the RT GPU renderings at the same time? Or do I need to put graphics cards in local working machine to be able to use RT GPU while the slaves are rendering final VRay scenes?

Hm, good question - we haven't made any tests in this configuration. The V-Ray RT render server, the V-Ray DR spawner for 3ds Max, and backburner are all different applications, so there is no problem to run them at the same time. I'm not sure how the CPU load will be distributed among all of them - the GPU renderer still needs some CPU resources. It will be best to try it out and see how it works.

Keep in mind that the GTX 480 cards need a monitor or a dummy plug connected to them, and someone to be physically logged on to the machine. Otherwise Windows will just turn them off. I think the Tesla cards are the only ones that can run without a monitor and without anyone logged.

    Best regards,

Do you have the possibility to test this on your side? Think it would be interesting to many people to know!
