oh sounds good! can somebody compare the 460 and the 480?
      or even better 2 460s and 1 480?

        That's what I'm trying to decide. I can get two 1.2GB 460's for the price of a 1.5GB 480

But if the recommended GPU is the 1.5GB 480, will two 2GB 460's perform equally or better?

The recommended card is just one that we know works well; we don't have 460 cards here so I haven't directly compared performance, but from the raw numbers, it looks like the two 460's should be somewhat faster: 336+336=672 CUDA cores for the two 460's vs. 480 cores for the 480 card; the 460's are running at slightly lower clock speed, but should still manage to be faster. This is just pure speculation though, I have not made direct comparisons.

If someone puts together a test scene for VRayRT GPU, I am willing to do some tests on my 480 and post the results. I think there is a TON of speculation as to how fast certain cards may be, it might be a good idea to create a 'benchmark' scene like we had for the production render engine.

                Just a thought.

oh yes, that´s what i´m trying now. i just have to search the "old" benchmark files.... i will test them on gtx 285 ...

The old benchmark files have features that VRayRT GPU doesn't support. So a new benchmark scene should be created to guarantee maximum compatibility. I just tried all of the 3 previous benchmarks used on these forums...none of them really work all that well.

Can they not be reworked a bit? Which ones did you look at?

I looked at the RC3 benchmark that had the lasers and teapots on pedestals. It rendered out almost completely white. Not sure what the deal was there, didn't really try to troubleshoot it though either.

Then I looked at the one with the flame like light in the middle with some VRayFur and Greeble walls. The textures really seemed off on that one. Again, didn't really look too closely.

The last one was done by neoVisual that had the individual elements scattered around against a white background. It showed off 2D and 3D displacement, sub surface scattering and caustics to name a few.

I have them all if someone wants them, I am sure I could package them up and send them off.

Ok, there were some others too, need to look for them...
