  • The good...The bad...The ugly..Bugs and doubts..

    Hi,
The good is beeing able to finally test it
The bad is that most of my cards are ATI, and my best Nvidia is a Geforce250 ( lame using GPU )
Used to preview stereo images and animations.
The ugly is.. well, we have 7 Vray licences to upgrade and 3 (now useless) RT licences.
And at least 5 decents video boards to buy.Start saving money now.
Now the bugs ( do not know if it is one)
The images are using not only lights( vray, spot, ies) it has a vray sun outside.
The cpu and gpu are totally differents in general lightning and the gpu is not loading all textures properly.
Probably due to the lame video board we have.
My doubt is more concerned to how are the render settings working.
I leave the production render set as Vray and the active shade as RT.
Does RT considers my production color mapping settings, gamma,IR, LC etc or it uses a totally diferet aproach?
The 3 renders are totally different.
Like it is now,cpu and gpu does not show a proper preview of the final scene.

There are things that are not supported in RT mode (e.g. light include/exclude, VRayDirt), which will introduce differences. There is another set of things that do not work on the GPU (cast/receive shadows, visible to GI, primary/secondary GI multiplier etc). Most of the features that are not represented properly are various cheats/hacks that people are used to in the production renderer, but which are very difficult to support on the GPU.

One of the goals of the beta is to find which of these features are used most often, so that we can implement them - so if you can send us any test scenes where there are significant differences, it will be very useful.

There was also a bug in the initial beta where the sun will not work in the CPU version; this is fixed for the 12596 build on the site.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

It uses some settings (e.g. color mapping), but others (irradiance map, light cache etc) are ignored, as the RT always works with brute force GI.

        Hi Vlado,

The scene is not using the cheats you´ve mentioned apart from the GI multipliers.
I am downloadind the new build now, let's see if things changes.
        Best regards,
