when using a VRayPhysicalCamera with vrayRT how can the amount of DOF be adjusted ?

You can use the f-number value of the physical camera.

Just in case you are not familiar with lens apeture settings (f-stops) and their relationship to DOF:

Smaller f-stop number = large apeture = less DOF (or more blur between near and far points in the scene)

Larger f-stop number = small apeture = more DOF (or less blur between near and far ponts of the scene)

Something doesn't seem to be working correctly or intuitively? Even with a f-number (f-stop) as low as .01 there is very minimal defocus.

Hmmm...I've never tested Vray's DOF effects before, only in Max and with physical photography. Can anyone here give us a quick Vray DOF tutorial?

This also depends on your scene units; if the scene is not modeled to scale, you may need to adjust the film width and/or the focal length as well.

              Vlado,
yes the film width and/or the focal length let me get the desired DOF effect. It does seem there could be a more intuituive process for senes that are not to scale.

The VRay Physical Camera workes just like a real camera where aperture, focal length and also other things like film width and distance to object affect the DOF. My workflow is based on using the same values as I do using my real Canon DSLR with different lenses. One of the CanonĀ“s best lenses for creating great DOF is the 85mm 1,2 L lens. So by using an 85 mm lens in VRay, have the aperture set to as low as 1.2 or maybee 1.8 and then laborate with the shutterspeed to get a good exposure will give you great DOF (if the distance to focal point is maybee 1 meter). If you go up to a 200mm lens the DOF will be even shorter. If you are not used to taking photos with a DSLR I would recommend you borrow one or maybee even buy one of the lower priced ones. That will give you unvaluable understanding of how it all works and save you days of trial and error on VRay.
Sorry if this was a little offtopic, hope it helps anyway.
