  • i7 940 + 2 x 480gtx problems

When I run GPU mode (openCL single kernel) and have the vrayRT registered as a service and started, the speed seems very slow...in fact slower than just CPU.

If however I use the manual RT server the speed is great - 6400 Kpaths/sec but I also had a major windows hang and had to restart the computer. This has happened only once so far since hard resets are not good.

Also, when using the manually started server the scene (even on this simple one) takes ages to get started. When using the registered service it starts a lot quicker.

Im using windows 7 64 bit and max 2010 64 bit.

The scene is just a teapot a plane with vray mats and a single vray light.

Thanks for the pointer; will look into it, although I'm not sure if we will be able to fix this (services are not allowed to access any user interface, perhaps something odd happens when they try to use the GPU directly); as for the slow start of the OpenCL code, try installing the latest drivers.

    Best regards,

No problem. I'll try installing the latest drivers. I think I may have them anyway. Will give an update.

Humh in that case... well u are using it on node then ? About the service... u mean the license right... Maybe dont register it and simply put it in the startup program list... so it start with the windows...

Also try reinstaling vray, maybe u got some old files that are confiusing ur RT, I know I had on Node so I had to get rid of thme lol...

Also are the GTX in SLI mode? I hear that they have to be separated...nut sure tho need Vlado on this 1

I dont think it would make a difference if I started the license manually or put it in the startup folder and let windows auto start it...its still the same file. The difference is between registering the license as a service or starting manually so it appears in the icon tray.

                I'll try installing vray...

The GTX are in SLI mode..are you saying they dont need to be for RT to use them both ?
