  • benchmarks with new GPUs

Just upgraded a workstation from a quadro 5600 to a quadro 5000 and Tesla C2050 SLI enable, here are the comparisons.

Note: there are some difference in the rendering between the GPU and CPU

The scenes was set to "Max. render time = 2.0 min."

    GPU
    quadro 5600 680 KPath/s 64 samples
    quadro 5000 w/ Tesla C2050 5459 KPath/s 672 samples

    CPU Local
    (2) x5650 cpus 12 cores 793 KPath/s 100 samples

    CPU Distributed
    (4) Machines total of (80) Cores 1997 KPath/s 272 samples

The new GPUs are impressive (2) GPUs are 2x faster than (80) cpu cores and 10x faster than a single quadro 5600

How many Tesla cards are in your machine ?
    How are samples/pixel on 5000 alone ?
    How are samples/pixel for above tests if Max.render time= 10 SEC !!??
If you go for max.performance and have enough money why don't wait for M2070/Quadro 6000 ? Both have 6 GB and make your world a lot bigger !

Tesla cards are very interesting and strong ! I wonder if we could use one of nvidia pre-build tesla pc workstations to work with vray if they still build them humh

Are the Tesla cards grafic cards or just kind of an extra boost upgrade to any existing grafic card?
Do they only boost GPU rendering, or also viewport performance in large scenes?

Tesla cards are just for pure calculations, they don't do anything with the viewport. They are nice because you don't have to have a monitor hooked up to them in order for them to be initialized.

            hello dhare,
I would like to know if c2050 is really a good product (for vray rt gpu use) vs products like gtx480-5 ?
            I have a quadro 3800, if I understand well I can plug a c2050 with a quadro 3800 ( the quadro 3800 for display ) ?
Can I use both of them for calculation ?
            Thanks.

              Yes and yes

Also Tesla is best graphic card now since they are clocked at 1+ GHZ per core giving u a lot more Mghz than any other cg out there on the market atm

Does the GPU can render better shadow than that. They are too crisp, no soft shadow... I personnally prefer to put the 2500$ the tesla cost on more CPU and just render with regular DR using a render farm. The same render farm can be use to render the final!

Yes, soft shadows from IES lights are now supported in the GPU version too (they were not, originally).

                    Best regards,

Great! I just played a bit with vray RT CPU a bit and it's great for choosing camera angles!
