  • New hardware coming - GTX560 @ 1000 MHz and 3GB memory on the GTX580

On January 25th the new NVidia cards hit retail - the GTX560 for around $250-$300. It is supposed to be about 30% faster than a GTX460 and 10% faster than a GTX470. Clocks will go up to 1000 MHz on the Gigabyte models compared to ~ 600-700 Mhz on current GTX4x0 cards. The GTX560 will have a 2GB edition released later, and the GTX580 is scheduled to be updated to a 3GB memory option by Palit.

Wow, a 3gb gtx 580. That is the wet dream of any RT GPU's user...!

But accordingly to the article they link to, it only has 1,5 gb...! Or is that the card that is going to have the upgrade? Strange...!

In the USA Gainward isn't available for whatever reason but the parent company is Palit, so Palit will offer the 3GB. The GTX 560 is supposed to have a 2 GB version from a few different card makers.

It's kind of a shame the 570 isn't getting much 3rd party modification.

Dual GPU card coming February (2 GTX 580's on one card):

              http://www.guru3d.com/news/geforce-g...late-february/

3GB ram will be split into 1.5GB per GPU, most likely (like the GTX 295).

Also, for those that can wait, new Nvidia architecture arrrives in Q4 of this year. Supposed to be 2-3 times faster than current cards (die shrink to 28nm). Instead of "Fermi" it will be called "Kepler".

Also in Q4 will be Intel Socket 2011 (replacing 1366) for performance systems and the new die shrink of sandy bridge (called ivy bridge). Which will be incredible considering how good sandy is right now.

I just received a 2GB GTX 560, to go with the 2GB GTX 460. Early numbers with the benchmark file look fairly decent (3m 13sec), but I'm forced to use the 266.66 drivers, apparently because of the newness of the 560, which will not run on the earlier drivers. They may very well prove to be slower than the earlier drivers. I'll do some testing with the 460/258.96 drivers for comparison and post everything early next week.

When you change the drivers, it might be a good idea to delete the *.clbin file in your temporary folder and run a simple scene before running the actual benchmark, so that the GPU code can be recompiled by the new drivers. I'm told that the newest drivers should perform better, but I haven't made comparisons yet myself.

                  Best regards,

Yes, I had to do that in between driver changes to get it all to work, for sure!

I'm real busy this weekend but I'll get back to testing Monday...

                    Thanks,
