I don't understand how to disable GPUs in some nodes and use CPUs
    is it possible?

if you choose no openCL devices with the utility call something like " select openCL devices for vrayRT GPU " on node you don't want to use GPU, i think it's work .
go to this utility by using the start menu , then unselect the devices, set apply and restart the vray server service .
If it's not work, restart windows.

it's work here . the node can render using CPU the same thing like with GPU, but a lot slower than good GPU .

every time I deselect my GPU and I reopen the control panel I found that the first (the only one) GPU is automatically selected.
      Do I need a reboot?

i think it's selected by default, but the change is made only when you hit the set device button.
It's writing something i think in a config file.

If you have deselect it and hit set device , close this windos and restart windows.

now start a render with Vray rt GPU and keep an eye on the usage of your CPU and you GPU .
For example, you can open the task manager to look at the usage of your CPU and use GPU-Z to look at the usage of you GPU.

If your CPU is working at nearly full and you GPU not, you win
if not, try to deselect again your device in opencl devices utility with administrator login and restart windows.
