Take a plan.
Add a shell modifier .
Setup Overide Mat ID to put Mat ID 1 to inner Mat and 2 to the Edges Mat.
Apply a Multi/sub obj material to you shelled plan.
Render with RT GPU ...
it seems that you shelled object only have Mat ID 1.
Switch to CPU it's work . you shelled plan is render with Mat ID 1 and 2 .
Multi/sub object work very fine on RT GPU . It's the overide mat ID of the shell modifier wich is not use by VRAY RT GPU . Something unplugged or forget ?
