quad socket amd opteron 6128

    lol i was just about to post and call your figures into question.. as the opteron 6180 ( according to google) is $1500 approx.

    however thats a 12 core chip, and the guy above was talking about the Opteron 6128, which is, indeed approx $250. so ill put it down to a typo

      Yeah, just a typo. The 6180 SE is a beast - 30GHz on a single chip. There's always a price premium for increased density.

      A quad socket Opteron motherboard is around $840, so about double what a dual socket Xeon board goes for - Still competitive.

        is anybody running a system with 4 x 6128's?

        I would be interested to see where is stands against a dual xeon system in vray rendering.

          well, number six, whats your feeling from amd machine ? can you show scalability of vray ? 1,2,4,8,16,32,64 cores on some exterior or interior scene ?

            It might be a good idea to wait for the next V-Ray service pack before doing any comparisons; we've done a lot of work to improve multithreading there.
