  • Maya/Vray crash when saving from VFB

I have a fairly large scenes that I try to render with RT GPU.
When trying to save from the VFB window, Vray and Maya crashes, but only when I gave it some time to render.
e.g. I started a render overnight, it crashed when I tried to save the image (as HDR file) this morning.
I tried again - it crashed when saving an hour later.

when I try to save immediatly, (like a minute later) it saves.
Annoying, because I don't even know if I am wasting my time...

I am using a graphiccard monitoring tool. It says 1134 outo 2048MB in use(that number never chhanges during rendering)

    update:
it happened again. I started rendering before I posted this. Could save every 5 mins. Until just now, about 1 hour into the rendering. Maya crashes. tries to save a backup of the scenefile.
I can open the saved hdr in photoshop, but bottom half of image is broken.

    nobody any idea?

it just happened again, with a total different, much smaller scene. Like this GPU rendering becomes unusable for me

      What build are you using?
Have you tried first to stop the rendering, then to save the image?

        Hi,
sorry I am writing in two threads.
Maybe we should stay in this one?

Yes I tried stop rendering before saving, also using a different image format - same crash.

Can you try a nightly build?
There were some fixes for the VFB and they could have fixed this problem (I'm not 100% sure if this is so, but you could try it).
To get access to the nightly builds please send an email to our support at vraymaya@chaosgroup.com

p.s. two threads are ok, because we're talking about two different problems...

Can you try to use the render view instead of our VFB?

Also, if this is on Windows, can you get us the Maya crash dump file (it should be somewhere in your %temp% folder)? Finally, which Maya version?

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

                    good morning

rendering in the maya renderview did work. I could save the image afrter rendering the whole night. Hope this helps getting closer to the bug.

But I can't use that image, because its way to overexposed and I can't save in 32bit, or adjust it (or can I?)

You can change the gamma to 2.2 in the Render Settings -> V-Ray-> Color Mapping.
