Is there a way to close vray standalone, when this message happens- "Close event trapped".

I have to shut down the workstation, and then hold the power button for 5 seconds to shut it off. Then boot up pc to start using vray rt again. Really annoying...
Have Geforce 560ti and newest nvidia driver.

    Best regards

You can always close it from the Task Manager (right-click vray.exe > End process...); there is certainly no need to restart.

In any case, do you have some more specific reproduction steps (it should normally close just fine).

that was my first thought to use task manager. But i can certainly confirm that "end process" has no effect. It won't shut down. It won't even shut down if i shutdown my workstion(pc still runs with black screen).

I've had this problem since started with rt gpu. Normally i close activeshade window or reinitisialize render, then nothing happens and the "close event occurs". Some scenes are worse than others.
I've tried reverting to older nvidia drivers but, each time i try rt gpu won't work at all. I always use "clean install" and restart pc afterwards. How come i can't use older drives?

Ok, I see. Do you have other OpenCL implementations installed (in particular, Intel OpenCL)?

Other than that, let me double-check: you close the ActiveShade window, and the "Close event trapped" messages appears in the RT server window right away (before you try to close it manually)?

        Best regards,

          No other OpenCL installed.

Just recreated this. In this scene it happens every time.
          What I do:

Open file - hit render(activeshade). It renders way too dark and in patches. This never happened before the 2.2 update. But i have 2 files where it happens. The first file (File A) had a very dense rug, so my thought was this happened because of a memory limmit, I was able to render just fine if removed the rug and restarted max.
The second file (file B) is very simple as you will see, and this also renders in dark patches. It should be noted that file B is made from file A.

I'm not using the mixed mode with cpu and gpu.
I pause activeshade, then press the X on activeshade window to close. Window closes.
Standalone now writes "busy with 0.0.0.0"

Then when i hit render again i get black screen and standalone writes "event trapped"

Ok I found the root to the problem. There is something with the floor lamp that is causing the dark patched rendering and "close event trapped". I also had a total system freeze a few minutes ago with this scene(had to force shutdown with powerbutton). This also happened a few days ago, but only on this particular scene. Never had experienced that before.

If I delete the lamp and hit render, everything is fine.

I've send the max scene to vray@chaosgroup.com
