  • got old GF 8800GTX, need soemthing new... please advice

Ok I really can't stand anymore my old geforce 8800GTX. (NO QUADROS) But I really need a card just for work I don't care about gaming performance. I just need 3dsmax viewport speed bump and vray RT.
But really I want the BEST BANG FOR BUCK. So if GF 580 is only 10% faster from 570 or even 560 I would prefer the cheapest option.

I understand that memory is the most important so it's good to look for something with 2GB. I don't know maybe 560 or even 550 with 2GB would be enough?

    Maybe MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II 2GD5/OC : http://us.msi.com/product/vga/N560GT...I-2GD5-OC.html be enough ?

    Guys please help.

to be honest ive held back from getting a gpu "for RT" simply because pretty much every scene i work with uses way more ram than whats available on a gpu. maybe your situation is different.. if you can, try to find something with 3 gb, or even 4.. if im not mistaken the new ati card has 4gb?

no benchmarks yet for RT, but its a mighty powerful gpu. wont be cheap, but with 4gb ram im guessing it would be good value if your scenes are not small. imho ram is the defining spec for an rt card (well not the only one for sure, but the most important for real work.)

if you are after bang for the buck and dont mind being ram-limited, then your choice of 2gb 560 is a good one.

if only chaosgroup would get into custom GPU production. a nice nvidia chip with a bank of ram slots.

well I don't want to use RT for heavy scenes (archiviz) rather for product viz. Also I'm a bit afraid of going radeon route...

yeh for sure their record isnt exactly sparkling so far, buuut, its a new architecture.. might be worth holding out a few weeks to see the benchies. fingers crossed etc.

to be honest for product vis , you can probably do quite a lot in 2 gb
