Its fine u can overclock them on EVGA to 5ghz or so...

I would have to read a bit about them but I think a 2.5 ghz could reach 5 ghz or so... Depends on their locked multipliers...

I think I will be happy with 2x e5 6 core ones in 600$ price range

I think this is good option:http://ark.intel.com/products/64586/...s-Intel-QPI%29

it's the lovest voltage of all e5, only 60 W ! So less heat = less noise !

I'm running an EVGA SR2 with 2 xeon x5650 overclocked from 2.67 to 3.8Ghz and the performance increase triple / quadrupled over an overclocked Intel 920. That with a fast SSD and the performance is very noticable over the single CPU's we have at work ( also over clocked )... but I think i paid $6K AUS for the rig (if not more) as appose to 1.5k for a single cpu setup so that'll be the deciding factor. I love the snappiness and the 24 buckets rendering away. Definelty worth it, BUT having said, cpu's have come along way since the EVGA SR2 from 2010 so might not be worth it in this day. Seeing how far VRAY GPU has come along, especially with the latest release, I would suggest investing your money in a GPU farm if it suits your style of rendering and stick to a 1 snappy CPU.
